Group Life Insurance (Manitoba Public School Employees Group Life Insurance Plan)
Basic Life Insurance of 200% coverage or 2 times your annual basic earnings is mandatory for all eligible employees if you are employed for 120 calendar days duration or more. You can choose up to 5 times your annual basic earnings. Optional plans include family or dependent life and accidental death & dismemberment:
- Any changes in coverage, increases, electing other coverage must be done within 90 days following a life event. AD & D coverage can be increased, elected or cancelled at September 1st of each year.
- Changes in beneficiary can be done at any time.

Extended Health Plan – administered through Mercer Human Resource Consulting
- Mandatory for teachers working 30% or more. Optional for teachers working less than 30% and support staff.
- Not permitted to opt out unless you have a spousal group plan approved by Blue Cross.
- Coverage is at true family status
- 3 plan benefits – Ambulance Benefit, Extended Health Benefit and Unlimited Travel Health Benefit
- Changes in status must be reported to our payroll dept within 90 days.
- Group plan available for retired school division employees

MAST/MTS Dental Plan – administered through Mercer Human Resource Consulting.
- Comes off salary scale, pretax benefit
- Mandatory for teachers with contract of at least 60 consecutive teaching days and 30% fulltime. Not available for support staff.
- Not permitted to opt out unless you have a spousal group plan approved by Blue Cross.
- 3 types of coverage – basic, major and orthodontics
- Changes in status must be reported to our payroll dept within 90 days.
- Coverage is at true family status.

MTS - Disability Benefits Plan (LTD) - Assists teachers through periods of disability, while providing them with financial security.
- Must be on contract for at least 40 working days during a school year
- Must be employed a minimum 30% of fulltime
- Must be an active member of MTS
- Waiting period of 80 working days which starts when the employee becomes disabled and is usually covered by paid sick leave.
- Claimants will receive 80% of net pay tax free.
- Premium paid by employee

Co-operators Long Term Disability Plan - administered through MAST
- Mandatory for support staff
- Must work a minimum of 15 hours per week
- Waiting period of 3 months
- Benefits are payable on the 101st day of continuous disability some of which is usually covered by paid sick leave.
- Claimants will receive 80% of net pay tax free.
- Premium paid by employee

TRAF (Teachers’ Retirement Allowance Fund)
- Mandatory upon commencement of employment for all teachers except retired teachers.
- Not permitted to opt out unless returning as a retired teacher
- Defined benefit plan – provincial plan
- Contact TRAF when changes in status

MAST Pension Plan for Support Staff Employees
- Mandatory upon commencement of employment
- Not required to join if you earn less than 25% of YMPE
- Contributions are a % of salary less CPP contributions
- Matched contributions between Employee/employer

Canada Payroll Savings / R.R.S.P (below)
- Open enrollment every October
- You can decrease, suspend or resume existing contributions any time.
- Current existing contributions can only be increased during the fall campaign
- Deductions commence with December payroll.
